Tell me when that show is and I'll be there!!! And I'll play the CD over and over again! I have never seen Lena or Louis Jr. live yet - I've seen Louis Jr. on youtube - but I would love to. I love playing his songs and his arrangements on the piano. As a matter of fact, I was playing his arrangement of "Cold Cold Heart/Little Mother" for my grandmother the other day and she was stunned that I knew it, almost being taken back to a happier time in her life. That's what his music does!
Thanks for answering my questions, I hope I am not being a pest. Good luck in your endeavers for preserving Louis' legacy, if there's anything I could do to help let me know!
God bless, Vincent

Hello Vincent,
I have approached Tony Bennett in the past with some of Louis' songs and a suggestion of a tribute CD. We would like to make something like this happen! Louis certainly deserves a tribute CD by great artists and a huge tribute show spotlighting Louis Prima,Jr. and Lena Prima! They are the absolute best at performing their Dad's songbook on stage!

Ron,
Thanks for the response. I had no idea you guys were doing work for any of that! I really do hope Louis Prima gets his proper due in today's world, because there are not many kids my age who truly understand what his impact was on the world, both musically and culturally.
In Staten Island NY where I live, his music lives at Italian festivals, senior centers, and private Italian-American family parties. However, if you are not of Italian origin, chances are that your family didn't play him often and you are not as knowledgeable of his influence, especially if you are my age!
Let's hope for the best, as he truly deserves the best!
Vincent
P.S. Is there any chance of getting an all-star tribute album together, with recordings of Louis' greatest songs by other famous artists? It'd be such a thrill to hear Billy Joel's interpretation of "Just A Gigolo-I Ain't Got Nobody" or Tony Bennett's take on "I'm Leaving You". Maybe I'm getting carried away, but anything's possible I guess....

Hello Vincent,
We have been in touch with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for over a decade regarding the induction of Louis Prima. Louis, Jr. recently performed at one of their events. We are also working on many honors for Louis which will hopefully be realized by 2010. These honors include a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, an induction into the Rock & Roll, Jazz and Songwriter Halls of Fame, a Prima US Postage Stamp issue, Jazz Fest tributes in New Orleans, and a Hollywood Walk of Fame star. We will keep the Prima fans informed regarding any progress. Stay tuned...

Hello Gia and Ron,
Gia I've corresponded with you before, as you sent me the CD's when I was younger. Now at 18 years old I am wholeheartedly appreciative of your kind deed and I am highly influenced by Louis Prima's music in terms of my own performing(I am a 15-year piano player and an 8-year harmonica player and drummer).
My question to you is this. Can we develop some sort of petition to induct Louis Prima into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010, the year of his 100th birthday? I truly believe that we would have a serious and legitimate shot at having Mr. Prima recognized and immortalized in the Hall of Fame.
Especially, since older acts such as Louis Jordan and Louis Armstrong have been inducted into the "Early Influences" category and Miles Davis has been inducted as a performer in the general category, I do not see any reason to exclude Louis Prima from this institution.
He transcended music during his time on this earth with his musical innovativeness and creativity in arranging and was "instrumental" in influencing what would become rock and roll. While rock and roll was ruling the world, he incorporated and manipulated the genre into his shows and created timeless renditions of songs that have been covered and revered by many musicians and fans worldwide. Not to mention what he did for the Italian-American culture as a whole!
I think this is a very legitimate request and if given enough push behind it, I believe he could be honored among the greatest in music history. Let me know what you think, as I would be more than happy to oversee this movement.
Thank you,
Vincent Innocente

I used to see Sam Butera in Atlantic City and Las Vegas with my dad. I have oodles of cd's/albums from them both. I even saw Lena Prima at the Italian Festival here in Columbus Ohio. When is she coming back?
The reason I'm writing is we just had a Fat Tuesday celebration and what's a Fat Tuesday celebration without jambalaya, hurricanes, Louis Prima and Sam Butera?? Thanks for the music and FUN!

To Jim and also Vincent, Vincent, Sam was with Louis from 1954 and we do not have knowledge of him doing any sessions for rock or doo-wop after joining Louis.
To Jim, Go on LouisPrima.com and click on to the discography page. It contains everything recorded by Louis. Thanks for asking. Gia

Hi all, Anyone know if there is already written somewhere a complete list of all the songs in LP's repertoire, or at least the ones he normally performed? I can go through the records one by one but just wondered if anyone already has such a list. Mille grazie, Jim

Hi Ron and Gia.I recently heard that Sam Butera played as session player on Doo-Wop records like 'Come Go With Me' by the Dell-Vikings in the mid 50's.Is this true?
